About Jomsborg
Vikingeklubben Jomsborg is a club for winter bathers and has its home at "Den Permanente Badeanstalt" in Risskov, in those months of the year where Aarhus Kommune is not opening it up for the public. Our season usually goes from late August to mid-May.
Badeanstalten – the ocean bath – is placed beautifully at the foot of Riis Skov’s steep slopes, sheltered from the west wind with an amazing view of Mols and Samsø.
Den Permanente Badeanstalt
We feel very connected to the ocean bath since Jomsvikigerne have been bathing there since it was founded in 1933.
With the number of members, we have today, the place actually has more visits during winter time than it does in the summer. During our season (from September 1st to May 31st) winter bathers go through the door to the ocean bath more than 130,000 times.
Naturally, the ocean bath is centre for all of the club’s activities. The location and shape of the ocean bath give us direct access from the changing facilities to the bathing pier where we can bathe undisturbed.
We also have the really good sand beach to ourselves so the options for bathing are great.
Bathing water of the highest quality
We have bathing water of the highest quality since the water is often changed because of the wind and the current.
We often see little fish around the bath which also indicate good, fresh water.
The ocean bath has had the blue flag for several years and Aarhus Kommune are testing the water throughout the year – usually with the best results for the entire area of Aarhus.
The Mens’ Bath is common area
The Mens’ Bath is placed towards south, to the right of the entrance. The club’s activities are happening mainly at the the Mens’ Bath and during our season those facilities are open for all members.
Our female members can also use The Ladies’ Bath towards north – left of the entrance. Here there are just showers and toilets and only till the frost comes.
After or between bathing, most members enjoy the warmth of one of our four saunas – all placed in the common area – in different sizes, temperatures, views and lighting.
The saunas really call on conversations with other members and many personal relations have been made at the nearly 100 degrees Celsius.
